One of the original great Departments of State, The Home Office has one of the most challenging and important jobs in government: to keep Britain safe and secure. We operate at the heart of the Government’s agenda, leading on immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime policy and counter-terrorism and work to ensure visible, responsive and accountable policing in the UK. The challenges the Department faces are significant and can change rapidly in the global environment in which we operate.

Mission critical Digital Data and Technology products and services are the life-blood of the Home Office, essential in informing policy making and enabling us to meet our statutory obligations whilst achieving operational excellence and desired outcomes for users and citizens.

As Deputy Director Service & Product Design, you will provide vision and leadership to align the activity of multi-disciplinary teams and professions across the Home Office to develop the right culture, environment and structures to define and embed a consistent, inclusive and effective approach to end to end User Centred Service and Product Design.  Bridging organisational boundaries both internally and externally, you will also work across government and with Government Digital Services to contribute to the development of the discipline, whilst establishing exceptional working relationships with best of breed third party suppliers to ensure that the Home Office remains at the forefront of service and product design innovation, whilst maximizing return from investment.

You will be an experienced user centred design leader with experience of resetting corporate approaches to service and product design in organisations of a similar size, scope and complexity.  A strategic, visionary and inspiring leader, you will bring the credentials and interpersonal skills to secure cooperation across multiple disciplines and professions, creating an appetite for an exemplary user experience that delivers efficiency and demonstrates design excellence.  You will also be an intellectually capable change agent who is excited by the opportunity to work in an environment in which business and technology change is constant and motivated by the opportunity to drive the evolution and success of this discipline at the Home Office.

This is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant and impactful contribution in an organisation of national importance.
